One Volleyball Player wears a different color of their team’s uniform
Here is the reason why one volleyball player is wearing a uniform that is a different color from what other players in the team.
In whatever sports, teammates always wear the same uniform, the same color in a particular game. An exception to this is the goalkeeper in soccer and hockey. However, in volleyball, there is no goalie but still, it can be noticed that one of the players in a team is wearing a different color.
In volleyball, a player wearing a different color is called “libero” who is an expert in defensive moves. The position was just launched in 1998. This was intended to encourage longer, more elaborate rallies, based on the article in Mental Floss.
A rally is everything that happens between the serve and the end of a play. This can be prompted by liberos because aside from being adept defenders, they are also some of the best passers on the court. Because of this, they are tasked to set up offensive plays.
However, there are several actions they’re not allowed to take. They can’t do serving, blocking, spiking, or any other attack hit when the ball is entirely higher than the top of the net. They can play any spot in the back row but they can never rotate to the front row.
Liberos can help in the offense but they can’t partake in the offense themselves. There is no limit to the time that they can be substituted in and out of the game. With these tasks, responsibilities, or jobs that they do inside the court which are different from other players, it would be difficult for the referees to track them if they also wear the same color of uniform. This is also to consider identifying the things they can’t do during a game.
In short, liberos have a different job and different rules than the other players.
